I get asked, what is GERD and what is LPR and are they different? GERD is gastroesophageal reflux disease. It's a term used by gastroenterologists predominantly and it refers to esophageal disease, the esophagus is the swallowing to from the throat of the stomach. It's a mistake to t I t So now we're calling esophageal reflux and LPR if you will, airway reflux. Now let's talk about the airway. The airway is from the tip of your nose and your back part of your throat and the middle part of your throat when you swallow and your airway where you breathe and your voice box is all the way down to where you start to get into the chest. T So the airway extends from essentially the tip of your nose to the root of your lung. So we're talking here about LPR or airway reflux and when gastroenterologists talk they're talking about esophageal reflux or GERD.
