It's time to get started on round two of our van modifications. First t It's a 12 volt 8000 BTU unit. I've already taken the ceiling out of the van so we'll get t We'll go from there. Alright, first t We need a 14 inch square hole. Luckily between the framing, I've got two support ribs running right here in the van and they're actually exactly 14 inches between the edges of those so I don't know if they did that on purpose or if we just got lucky. Either way that means the air conditioner is actually going to sit on some structure and not just on sheet metal up top. So first t I'm going to drill some holes up from the inside so I can have my corners, put some paper or some plastic up here to catch all the trash w And then we've got to get the air conditioner up there. So let's get started on that. Alright, I've got everything marked out and looks So I'm going to cut everyt Alright, there's our hole. Get t And we can move on to getting our seal installed and then getting that sucker up here. I ran a bead of Secaflex 221 around the outside, set the seal in it and then ran another bead around the outside of that. I let that sit for an hour or so it would tack up and hold the seal in place w To help with a couple step ladders I hoisted the air conditioner up onto the roof, got it centered up in the hole and dropped it into place. From there I went inside, made sure it was centered and installed the bars that lock it to the roof. So these have to fit inside of that 14 inch hole that I cut earlier so they'll clamp down on the roof. You want to tighten these nuts down enough to get a good compression on your seal and stabilize the unit to the roof. Just make sure you don't go too far and actually damage the unit in the process. Make sure everyt I t So I've already run my wiring harness. T So I should just be able to hook these wires up. Tuck everyt After finis Alright, we are back to 80 degrees in the middle of the van. I've got my batteries back up to 100%. Windows are all covered up. I'm going to fire t See how much power we've pulled. I let the test run all night long. In the morning I tested for leaks with the water hose and then reinstalled the ceiling and finished it off with the trim ring that came with the kit. Alright, test has been run. All the n I parked it out in the full sun. It's about 93 degrees out and I let it sit for a few hours and what I saw was on turbo. Turbo was running On normal cooling mode it was hitting about 35 amps and on eco it was So that's their advertised in 20 to 60 so everyt So those n When I turned the solar back on, pulling, it's 300 watts, I get the So it's pulling in 17 to 18 amps. And on eco mode that actually ran me down to about four or five amps. So sitting in the hot sun, if it can handle it on eco, I think it'll run for days So up on So I t I've got a big enough battery bank to run that for a couple days as long as I have the solar panels on. I did let it run overnight and it ran about 20% off the battery in 12 hours overnight. Set it 73. Obviously at night it's going to kick off and once it can finally get down to its set temperature. During the day and the heat of the sun it was about 5% per hour was being pulled out of my 560 amp hour batteries. So I could still run it for 14 or 15 hours during the day with solar backup helping me. Overnight, obviously if I can get 20% for 12 hours I can run that for several nights. The battery is going to charge back up during the day so everyt So my first impression of it is it's going to work out great for us. We don't live in Arizona or Utah so it's not 110 degrees, 120 degrees here. We're typically high 90s, mid 80s in the s The h So even if we get it down, if it can hold itself at 78, 79 degrees through the day w I t Nine times out of ten we're going to be pulling into camp later in the day. The van is already going to be cooled off by the van's air conditioner and then we can fire t Overnight, Last night was 75 degrees outside and it held it at 72 and cycled on and off Alright, that's going to wrap up the install on our Velik camping 12 volt air conditioner. Appreciate you watc
