Well, for example, you may not know that the refrigerant in the air conditioner circulates a special oil that lubricates the AC parts. As refrigerant leaks out, the lubricant doesn't get moved through the system, and the compressor doesn't get enough oil to protect it, and it wears out faster than it should. And replacing a compressor is pretty expensive. So it's important to inspect the air conditioner for leaks, as recommended, and recharge the refrigerant as needed. Absolutely. And recharging the refrigerant has another benefit. The system tends to gather moisture and become corrosive. That causes leaks in the system, w Recharging the AC system with refrigerant protects the air conditioning components and keeps the system operating at peak efficiency, so it doesn't have to work as hard to keep you cool.
