In my shop I have a 69 Roadrunner, got a big block in it, got headers on it, got a pretty noticeable exhaust leak where the header bolts to the head. And whenever you're trying to diagnose where those leaks are coming from, those headers get really hot, way beyond 600 degrees, especially on a hot day cruising down the So you don't want to get your hands that close to them. They're just too hot to deal with, so you can't get your hands in there and find out where the leak is. So the tech tip is to take a piece of regular old heater hose, put one end up to your ear, take the other one and go around. Of course you can put that hose right on it. But you can go down through there and if it's leaking, you will find it. In t I went around and checked everywhere and I got down here and it got really loud coming through that tube. Believe it or not, that sound will carry up through that heater hose to your ear and you won't have touch a t So it's huge in finding out where you're diagnosing it correctly.
