Here the unit looks That's the back where the cable goes in. You can see that silver dr The gold piece in the middle there. That silver piece. The silver piece here. That's the cable turns. And then that inside gold piece there. That's what moves the needle. The silver part spins. The It works by magnets pretty much. It's kind of greasy and dirty in there. Maybe that has somet So these two screws in the front there. Left and right hand side. That should take the odometer dials off. And depending on the middle I should be able to get the insides. So let'see if that works. Here's what we got. I took those screws out. Two silver screws on the front here. And that's the gold piece. The copper colored piece were looking at before. And the silver piece stays in there. And then there is two gold screws. One on that side. And it allows me to pop out the trip meter. So that piece comes out. And this little gear here is going to fall out It just turns the odometer. And the grease that's on here is It's kind of sticky. So I that copper colored piece sits in. T It sits inside of here. So I t So perhaps that little axle that goes through the center here and goes from be Perhaps that needs to be oiled up a little bit. I have to smell it a little freer. And I'll probably try and clean t And then oil t I don't And then, I ass Basically the way that's how the computer knows the speed of the truck. So that's obviously not replaceable. But I'm trying to clean t Not, I'll be replacing it. Here's what I did. Clean the outside and inside of that with denatured alcohol. And I noticed that when you spin t It's got a little tab. T It's a little tab on here and that's the stop at zero. When you turn it t It's really stiff. My tapping noise, I have to It goes back nice and quickly. I noticed on the end of the pin here, there's a lot of really that pins it inside the middle of that. So perhaps, because the grease was all really t Don't say, I'll put it back together now. I'll spin the back there with a screwdriver and see what the needle does. If it worked better or not. Alright, I got the unit back together. Got the pretty easily. Just the four screws, two silver ones in the front. Gold one on that side. Gold one on that side. The idea is I stuck a screwdriver in the end here. That's where the cable turns. And that's been that silver piece there. It turns into the gold piece. And it seems we're working much freer now. The inner piece, when the needle connects to you, returns back to zero much quicker than it did before. So I'm hopeful that it will work when I get it back together. So I'm going to reassemble the instr Hopefully it goes back together as easy as it came apart. And then we'll get it back in the truck and see what happens. Okay, we have a fully assembled instr Went together very easily. But I did when I put the speedometer needle back on. I actually had a pointing at about 20. I pushed it on the pin because it's a friction fit. And then I turned it back so that it would Because there's no pin on the gauge. I'm going to show you how to stop on the speedometer. So that made it fairly easy. And guess what I have it out? I can show you the back here. People that are interested. There you go. Let's turn it over. Well these little black plugs, those are going to be for light bulbs. So I don't have any light bulbs burned out. So I don't need to replace any of them. So I'm going to go over here. And. . . T See if we can't get it all back together now. Hopefully it goes together as easy as it came apart. And I t I've had most of it apart before. I've never had the instr So we'll see. The hardest part is going to be getting t Because there's no play. That's just where it is. That's how much space there is when it comes up to the firewall. So. . . And the cable inside there is a square end. So it has to line up perfectly. So we'll see if I can get that back on. As you can see it's all back together. I actually went together very easily. I'm pretty happy about that. All the radio stuff went together. These three wires here. My satellite radio receiver. Goes right there. That's where I went through there. So time to go for a test drive and see if it works. All the gauges work. My truck hasn't warmed up yet. So I don't know if the temp gauge worked but I t Fuel gauge reset to where it should be. Attack works. Speedometer works. So we'll see how long that lasts.
