Muffler Man

I photographed my very first muffler man back in 2007. I shot a few others that year as well, then just shot pictures of them here and there as I came across them over the next several years. It wasn't until 2019 that I started to get pretty serious about it and scheduled road trips to track them down. In the last three years alone I've traveled through the entire 48 continental United States looking for them. By last May I'd photographed every publicly accessible muffler man in the US plus several other ones. But the list is ever changing. New ones are created, old ones are discovered, some are sold and moved, and some are placed into storage and some simply disappear. Before I show you my list, I need to tell you what my list consists of. All of my roadside giants were made by International Fiberglass or its precursor, Pruitt Fiberglass. These include bunions, cowboys, unoroyal gals, mortimer snards, Texaco big friends, Vikings and others. Or their derivatives of those giants made from molds created by people Then there's Regiant who does amazing work bringing old muffler men back from the dead. It's a never ending journey and my list will soon be outdated again. But for now, here they are. Pay attention, I promise you'll see examples of roadside giants that you've never seen before. It's been an enjoyable journey tracking these guys down all over the country. More importantly, I've seen parts of the country I've never seen before, made several new friends and had an opportunity to chat with people everywhere along the way.
