Yates Automotive is a third generation, family-owned business which was founded by John Yates in 1964. It has continually served customers in the city of Alexandria for more than 53 years. While obtaining his degree John worked as an evening manager at Steve’s Shell Station on Montgomery Street. After his graduation, the service station across the street went up for sale and John was able to get a VA loan and purchase it. He said that there was no better way to raise a bunch of boys than keeping them busy working in a family business. He bought the Gulf station on the corner of Washington and Montgomery Streets. Over the years he acquired more service stations, auto parts stores, and a hardware store where the whole family worked together. Eventually he sold all of the stations except for the Braddock Road location. Jason, his youngest son, worked with his father and in 1986 purchased the station and became the owner. In 1989, at the age of 70, John passed away. Both he and his wife rest in the Arlington National Memorial Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. For the past 31 years, Jason Yates has worked very hard to not only continue but improve the business he grew up in. Jason’s constant belief in superior customer service combined with the best in quality auto repair over the years has put Yates Automotive in the top ranks of automotive repair in Northern Virginia, servicing all makes and model vehicles. Jason has always invested in the best equipment and finding and keeping the best people to take care of our great customers. He has always been very involved in the local community, from carwash fundraisers to sponsorship of many local neighborhood events. You can always tell the Yates station by how wonderful the landscaping and holiday decorations are. Even if you don’t see Jason when you visit, you can be assured he is working in the background on a daily basis and striving to make us all a little bit better.

I'm here today with Jason Yates Jr. and Joey Savali, the general manager. Obviously, Jason Yates Jr. is the grandson of the originator of Yates Automotive and Joey Savali is the general manager. Tell me a little bit about how you all decided to do t We're here today, they're having a white glove service, We are a family business, we have been in business in Alexandria on t We've always prided ourselves on providing exceptional customer service and actually, in fact, in the old days when I was young growing up, we used to offer full-serve gas p The times have changed. So fast-forwarding to now in the current unfortunate circ So in full-service, what do you mean by full-service? I drive up and what is my experience? So we will have one of our team members at the p If I need my oil checked, you'll also do that. Oh, that's fantastic, that's terrific. So Joey, why don't you tell us a little bit about your experience here and why you Yeah, I've been the Yates Automotive here for a little over a year. Love it, family-owned, I'm actually part of the family, so truly do enjoy it. T I mean, it's really a concierge, we've got the full-service gas w So we're full-service, you come up, we'll p We're also doing a complimentary pick-up and drop-off of your ve So you can call us up, we'll come out to your house, pick up your ve We just really want to try to help to keep you in their homes or in their ve And then if you do have an issue with your car on the collision side, we have the Yates collision w You can basically take a picture of your car, of the damage, you can send it into us, a Yates collision. We can do an estimate, communicate through email and text and get you set up an appointment. So you don't have to leave your home on that front as well. And then we'll follow that up with also picking up the ve It's not just Yates Automotive that's here on there's the whole corner full of wonderful businesses where you've employed so many people. Why don't you tell me a little bit about how Lena's got its name and some of the Yes, so Lena's is my grandmother. She was from Italy and she was a huge cook and always cooked lots of food for the five boys, five Yates brothers. Now how has t Yes, so unfortunately, well we've taken the steps to proactively close down Lena's dining room and outdoor patio as a step to keep our community safe and limit the spreading of any viruses. So we will still be offering takeout and delivery and curbside pickup. We'll bring it out to your car. That's great. So one t So we talked about light glove treatment here at Automotive and we'really carrying that forward across the whole corner. We're going to the dry cleaners, same t So really what we're trying to do with the whole corner is just its service and light glove treatment concierge style. And that's a great spot to end on.
