It is the mission of Procter Automotive to provide honest, reliable and effective auto repair service that instills confidence in everything we do. To make certain that our service is as flawless and dependable as humanly possible and to ensure that every customer feels safe, cared for, and certain they've made the right choice for their automotive repair needs. Since 1947 Procter Automotive has been providing excellence in auto repair for the Big Country. We are still doing business in our original location at 1325 Butternut Street and have grown into a nationally recognized automotive company. Our customers travel from all over the Big Country area because they know they have someone they can trust take care of all their automotive needs. When Procter Automotive started over 60 years ago, Bob Procter with his tools and a 3 bay shop, built the foundation for what we are today. Today we have over 20 employees, more than 20 bays and proud to be Abilene’s only AAA approved repair shop. Recently, Procter Automotive was named at one of the top 50 repair shops in America by Auto Training Institute (ATI) and was just awarded the Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Outstanding Market Place Ethics.
I applied for a job. I went to work for Mr. Proctor in 1978 as a mechanic and at the time he had just came back into the business and it was Mr. Proctor and myself and a cleanup boy that came in half a day and we started trying to rebuild the business and get it back up on its feet and we accomplished that and in 1981 Mr. Proctor decided he wanted to retire and so he sold me the balance of the business and retired. We've marched on and added employees and grown and bought buildings and expanded into buildings and then bought a second location. Abilene's a small town. What goes around comes around pretty quick. It's not actually a small town. It's a pretty good sized community but it sure goes around quick for the ones that don't do the right things. I just really love what I do and I love the people I'm involved with, my customers or my gosh it makes you feel so old when one drives in the door and you remember when they were in the car seat in the back seat The one thing that I have tried so hard to do is have a family rather than have employees. I am so honored. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that I would have even been near the class of people that have been torch award honorees in the past. Just to be considered in that group I've been honored and to be a winner I just don't have words to express it. The Better Business Bureau is proud to present the 2011 torch award from Marketplace Trust to Proctor Automotive.
