Hughes Performance was founded in 1971. Founder Bill Hughes, Sr. began the humble beginnings of this company in a small shop that rebuilt OEM torque converters. Bill's son Jim Hughes took interest in the design and engineering of torque converters for racing purposes. Jim's involvement in the company took Hughes Performance to the next level, and resulted in a dynamic change within the company that quickly elevated Hughes Performance to the upper echelon of high performance and racing torque converter manufacturing. The time came for Hughes to jump into the transmission side of the industry. Enter Bill's son Jeff Hughes. With Jeff's in-depth understanding of automatic transmission function as well as his machining abilities Hughes Performance enjoyed immediate success in the high performance and racing transmission market. Today Hughes Performance employs over 40 people and continues to proudly manufacture the finest torque converters and transmissions currently available in the aftermarket.
