Sadler Power Train

Light, Medium & Heavy Duty Truck Parts & Service

Sadler Machine Company was founded in 1956 by Roy and Myrna Sadler. The company's reputation as a machine job shop specializing in repair and small run production machining grew over the years, and today it is one of the largest and most respected of its kind in the upper Midwest. Sadler Machine Company is owned by brothers Tom and John Sadler. Tom Sadler is President and Chief Executive Officer. Founders Roy and Myrna Sadler continue to serve on the company's Board of Directors. In 1975, the Sadler's founded a second company, Sadler Power Train, which services customers in Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin as a distributor of light, medium and heavy duty truck parts with stores in Cedar Rapids, Davenport, Dubuque and Waterloo, Iowa. John Sadler serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Sadler Power Train. Starting out providing driveline, differential and transmission parts to its customers; Sadler Power Train has grown to provide parts for suspensions, brakes, power take-offs, hydraulics, clutches, electrical systems and much more. In 1995, both companies underwent an expansion when Sadler Machine Company moved out of the building it shared with Sadler Power Train and into a new 45,000 square foot climate controlled manufacturing facility located on a 6-acre site in southwest Cedar Rapids. This move allowed Sadler Machine Company to more than double its capacity and employment of skilled machinists. With the expansion, the company was now able to better serve its customer base, and the business grew rapidly to the level it is at today. In the summer of 2005 Sadler Machine Co. expanded with a 15,000 square foot addition to the machining facility. In 2008, Sadler Power Train was forced to move out of their downtown facility by the flooding of the Cedar River that summer. With the help of many employees and volunteers cleaning out the old building and salvaging what was left to move, Sadler Power Train is now in a 46,000 square foot facility on the southwest side of Cedar Rapids. This new facility gives Sadler Power Train the opportunity the keep pace with its current and future growth. Sadler Power Train has been family owned and operated since 1956 and continues to be with Tom and John continuing to oversee their respective parts of the business. Tom has been joined in the business by his oldest son, Tommy and John is joined by his two sons, Nate and Adam. The future continues to be bright for Sadler Companies by sticking to the principles of what the business was built on, quality product and great customer service.

Our name is on the side of the building. It's on every truck. It's on some of the parts that go out the doors. We want to translate that to everybody that works here, that it's your name that's going out there. Because they do represent us too, every employee that we have. They are a reflection on our business. It's pretty special and it drives us every day. The machine shop has always been quality service and that's really what we're known for. Now we've expanded into all these OEM manufacturers that we buy from and distribute. We really still are focused on the service to the customer, just going above and beyond what other people are willing to do. Were a small warehouse downtown for a long time so were really service based and once the flood hit in the way, were kind of forced out of that building. Were kind of bursting out the seams already. We saw this one and we really didn't know what were getting into because from the outside of this building, it looks Well, in the backside, it's very open. Went from holding about $2 million worth of inventory to at our peak about a year ago, about $8 million worth of inventory. We have probably the largest inventory in the state of Iowa, truck parts, especially in the eastern Iowa area because we have our other three locations. The name of the game now is Speed, so you have to have it and you've got to get to the customer fast. Whether it's a service, finding a part, delivering a part, we just want to go above and beyond for the customer and make sure that they remember to have the powertrain help them out when they were in the pinch. People knew us as the small company down by the river. If you see this building now and walk through this warehouse, it is impressive. And people do need to know everything we have here for them.
