Music Hey folks, I want to replace the OEM Jeep emblem with the raised letter gladiator emblem. There are a lot of different manufacturers out there that do this. I chose to go with the Urban Jeep Outfitters. I also chose to go with the outline letters. This kit was $129 but you can get the kit that's just the letters themselves and not the outline. I think it was I chose to go with the gloss black outline and the matte black letters. I think it looks good and it kind of goes with theme that we have going on with the Jeep. Comment below and tell me what colors you would choose for your Jeep. I mean they've got a ton of different colors that you can choose from and make it fit your own personality or your own theme or whatever you want to do. The package actually came yesterday. I was wanting to do this out in the garage. As you can see we're in the Hot Wheels room. It's just too cold outside to do anything right now. But the package came yesterday and I've already opened it. I thought I'd show you what's inside what you get. Get some fishing line to remove the OEM Jeep in one. Pretty heavy duty. That should be a lot of fun. And you get a nice set of instructions. Kind of lead you along the way. They're very complete. Easy to understand. Doesn't look Most anybody should be able to do this. Here are the letters. I'll show you that in just a second. Comes with the template that you'll use to place the letters. Nice heavy-duty cardboard. Should be easy to work with. That'll help a lot. And the letters I cheated just a little bit. Kind of filled the protective coating off one of them. Just to get an idea of what it looks So again I went with the two, the outline letter. And they come with this protective coating or protective cover. And of course they're held on by 3M adhesive. I went ahead and pulled it back just to see. You can see the letters are the matte black. And the outline is the gloss black. Just This isn't mine. I just pulled it off the internet. But it looks Pretty straightforward. I think the hardest part is going to be getting the OEM emblem off. I want to try to save the letters. Some people just take a heat gun to them. And almost basically melt them off. I don't want to do that. So I'll put the fishing line to use. And maybe come up with some kind of jig to make it a little easier. But that's probably going to be the hardest part is getting that off. So hopefully we'll have a nice warm day coming up here in the next week or so. And I can get outside and get started on this project. And bring you folks along with me. In the meantime, And stay tuned for the next episode. Again, be sure to let me know what color you'd go with your Jeep. Consider in what color your Jeep is. Till next time, I'll see you all later. Hey folks, It's a couple days later. Still way too cold to be doing anything. I'm sorry for any dog noise or wind noise. But I thought I'd go ahead and take this vinyl off that I've had on here a couple years. I put this on myself. Hot wheels, of course. That's who we are. So it stays on there. But I'm going to go ahead and remove this vinyl and this vinyl here. And probably I think tomorrow is supposed to be warmer. We can go ahead and try to get the Jeep emblem off. Excuse the garage. It's a mess. We're doing a little pre-spring cleaning. We're trying to. I'm going to try one of these plastic razor blades here. I've used them on a couple other projects. They seem to work really well. I don't know how well that vinyl will come off with it being as cold as it is. We'll give it a little whack here and see what happens. They're pretty easy to make. If it pulls slow, it'll probably better. Okay, I'm going to get this done and bring it back in just a minute. Alright, as you can see, I've got the vinyl off here. This one came off pretty easy. This one over here came off pretty easy. This one here has less than residue. Let me tell you, this isn't something you want to do when it's 20 degrees outside It's a lot harder. If this was warmed up, I'm sure they would come off with no issue. So I'm going to put a little WD-40 on this one and let it soak for a while. That should take off the rest of the residue. But other than that, it's ready to go. So I'll see you shortly. Hey folks, so it is the next day. It's not warm. It's in the 30s. But I thought I'd go ahead and try to get the emblem off while it's cold. I'm just curious to see if it may be easier to get off when it's cold than heating up the letters to get them off. So as I mentioned a bit ago, I made this little jig with the fishing line that was supplied with the kit. And we'll see how it does. If this doesn't work well, I'll back it into the grudge here and put some heat to it and give it a try that way. But I thought it'd be worth a shot just to see that it may be easier to cut with the, while it's cold outside. So let's get it behind the jig here. Whirr get back and forth. I just cut in. Oh. It's not easy. Get it on that side. Hey. There we go. That was actually fairly easy. I will go ahead and do the other three and I'll bring you back when I'm done. Okay, so I've got the letters off. I will tell you this, it's worth it to make this jig here that really made it a lot easier. And one thing I did too is I sprayed it down with some WD-40 just to help it slide a little bit better. But they came off really easy. Took less than five minutes to get them all off. So definitely use a jig Now I get the fun task of getting the sticky stuff off, which it actually looks Just the old-fashioned way of rubbing it loose. I did go get some isopropyl alcohol to rub everything down and clean it when I'm finished. Of course, you want to use the 91%. That should clean any grease or residue that's left off the back of the tailgate. But yeah, I was kind of dreading this process and it actually only took again about five minutes. So I'll get the rest of the sticky stuff off and I'll bring you back when we start to lay the template back. All right, so we've got all the goo off. The trick here with getting the sticky stuff off or any residue is the isopropyl alcohol. It worked great. Just put it on there, let it soak a little bit. Then took a dry cloth and rubbed it off fairly easy. So now what I'm going to do, I've got a mixture of grease lightening here and some water just to remove any remaining residue that may cause problems later. All right, get everything wiped down really good. Sorry if there's any wind noise. Wind's blowing just a little bit. Actually the part I was dreading the most was getting the letters off and that actually has been one of the easier parts so far. The vinyl I had on there was the hardest to get off. Okay, that should take care of that. Let me wipe it down one more time. I just took the isopropyl alcohol and put it into this sprayer here, make it a little bit easier. Give it a good wash here with the alcohol. Any remaining residue should be gone now. At least I hope so. Now I think it's about 40 degrees right now. But the metal is getting warm with the suns been beating on it. So I'll get everything ready. I'll go ahead and apply the template and I'll bring you back when I'm ready. Okay, let me show you real quickly what I'm doing here. I'm starting with the centerpiece. What the instructions said to do is measure 8. 5 inches from the bottom of the tailgate up to here. So what I did, which will be the bottom of the template. So what I did, I used a marker and measured 8. 5 inches up to help align the template. And That seems to be the easiest way so far to do it. So I'll go ahead and put the other two pieces on and get them some secure. I've got the letters out here kind of basking in the sun a little bit. What has warmed up is probably maybe 45, 50 degrees. So metal is nice and warm now. So it shouldn't have no issues. But I'll go ahead and get the other two pieces up and then I'll bring you back in just a minute. All right, as you can see, I've got the template mounted. Everything's good and level. Put together well. Should not go anywhere. It's time to go ahead and put the letters on. I thought since I went ahead and started with this one, we'll do it first. I don't know how hard this tape is going to be to get off. That was fairly easy. Go ahead and get the rest of it off. One thing I noticed in the instructions, they mentioned using the adhesive promoter that was included with the kit. Mine did not have that in the kit. I did email Urban Jeep Outfitters to ask them if I was supposed to get it and didn't. And I haven't heard anything back yet. In the past, usually with 3M tape or any kind of double-sided tape, I usually just use alcohol to clean everything and it sticks fine. So I'm hoping not having the adhesive promoter that don't have any trouble. If I do, then I'll just have to wait until I hear back from them. Let's get this last piece of adhesive tape off. Okay. And then basically all we're going to do is place it. Alright. There's the first one. I guess we can go ahead and peel this one since it's already started. Just to see how it looks. I'm kind of hitting on that one there. Alright. I'll go ahead and put the other letters on and then I'll bring you back. Alright. So I have all the letters placed. The R was a little tight so I went ahead and pulled the template off to place it. And I think this A right here is a little tight so I should be able to place it permanently once the template is off. So I'm going to go ahead and pull the template off. Yeah, see I pulled it just a little bit there. Everything looks Everything fit really well. No complaint there. I'll take a little isopropyl alcohol and I'll take off the markers. And as you can see I've already pulled the R, the cover off. So I'll get the rest of the covers off here or the protective layer off the rest of the letters. Get the marker marks off and we'll be back to take a final look. All in all not a hard project. A couple things to keep in mind. It makes it just a little bit easier. Make you the jig for your fishing line to pull the other letters off for sure. That makes that a lot easier. And just take your time and have fun with it. So all these projects are for is to have fun and enjoy your day. So let me get these off and we'll be back in just a minute. Alright folks we're going to call this project complete. Overall fairly easy. I guess something to point out is prep. Make sure you're prepped and it makes everything go so much smoother. But I really It looks a lot better than just a Jeep emblem. Kind of goes with my theme. Again Not terribly hot but just warmer. Build the jig for your fishing line to get the OEM emblem off. And just take your time and have fun. But again It's a nice kit. Was it worth 130 bucks? Yeah I would say so. I don't know if I was missing the adhesive applicator or adhesive promoter. I haven't heard back from Urban Jeep outfitters yet. But everything I mean they're definitely not going anywhere. But anyhow I hope you picked up some good tips from this. And if you have any questions feel free to let me know. I'll definitely answer them. Again in the comments let me know what you think. Do you What kind of color would you go with your Jeep? But again I think it kind of fits my theme pretty well. And now I think it's warm enough that Gladys deserves a nice wash today. Now maybe we're even going to bring the beetle out and give her a wash today. She's been cooped up all winter and now it's time to get her out and have some fun. Anyhow thanks again for joining. Any questions let me know and we'll
