Rubens House Of Classics is a business
Well at this point in our On the Clock series, you've seen me lay down welds and precisely slice materials. And in this week's edition, I get to step on it and combine my new skills from the past 10 weeks at Ruben's House of Classics. Hey y'all, I'm Natalie McCain and this is On the Clock. And today we're at Ruben's House of Classics where we're going to fine tune our grabber case skills. Let's do it. Right off the bat, this place is huge. There aren't plenty of cars here and they're all waiting to get worked on. We have everything from 1930s to 1940s and 1950s, all these classic cars getting their special touch. That special touch? Shop supervisor Ruben Jr. says it's from basic fabrication to full-blown restorations. Our job today to drop this 1948 Chevy Fleet Line. An intimidating job, but I'm revved up. Oh yeah, my prior knowledge and experience should come in handy. Okay, nice little half-jacket moment we've got going on here. We can start off with cutting out the brackets that we need for the airbags for the 1948 Fleet Line that we're going to lay out. These brackets will go under the car, housing the suspension airbags, allowing the car to be slow and low, still with maxim After cutting the brackets, we smooth them out with an air grinder. I'm pretty nervous to have that air grinder, just the sparks flying. I could feel them coming and hitting me, but they didn't hurt. But just getting over that initial fear and moving past that, it's pretty incredible. So we're excited to see what else we do here today. Perfectly measure them out and bend them in the press for a perfect fit. That in-house precision? Ruben Jr. 's favorite part. Learning the tricks of the trade, what works for us, having the equipment to be able to do everything ourselves in-house. Pedal to the metal for Ruben Jr. , but the job isn't without its challenges. Working on a car that you've never done before, the issue might have run into another issue, which runs into another issue, and creates a chain effect. But between the geometry, grease and sweat, the hardest tasks turn into reality. With Ruben Jr. 's lifelong expertise on my side, it's time for us to mount our metal. My welding experience coming in handy. And after two hours of grinding, welding and measuring. . . To be fair, the other week when I was doing welding, it was flat on the table. Good. It was just that light. Okay, it was just flat on the table, so I haven't done it overhead It's a lot harder. To be completely honest with me, based on my performance today and the things that we did, would you hire me as an apprentice? Yes, you had a good start. Awesome, well thank you so much. You're welcome. It'safe to say these classic cars are geared up for greatness. Keep it simple, keep it straightforward, do step by step, and you can't go wrong. Now and I did. They also fully restore the beautiful classics, do wrap jobs in paint and more. And Jaylen, this was such a blast. These on the clocks never fail to amaze me, and it just shows me I was gonna say, you look I've seen you do a couple now, and every single time you're having to put on some sort of helmet, or you're coming some close to some sort of flame, you got to work on some old Chevy's. What was that Yeah, it was cool because my dad restores, he has a 1968 Camaro that he's restoring over the past And so getting to see what he's been doing, oh my goodness, I'm sorry that, I don't know, it's hard. Did you think your dad would let you help now? That you've been on the job for a little bit and you got a little experience? I think so. I think Ruben Jr. said it himself. I know what I'm doing, so we'll see. Maybe we'll take in on that a little later. That was awesome though. I'm glad you got to show us that.
