Whether you use your motorcycle for commuting or riding around the world, having a solid foundation for your luggage is vital. Now one of the most popular is a top rack. Here at Twisted Throttle we have a couple of really good solutions from SW MoTeX to get you there. Now this bad boy is the steel top rack. As the name implies it's made of steel, but it's also configured in a very specific way. This is designed to be the one piece between your motorcycle and your luggage. The idea is the luggage fits right on top of this plate, the plate fits on top of your motorcycle. An alternative for smaller bikes, especially sport bikes and naked bikes is the Al Urak. Now the design concept here is a little bit different. The Al Urak is meant to be smaller and lighter, it's made of al Speaking of that, it's actually a very straightforward mount on most motorcycles. In the case of this Africa Twin, four bolts gets it done. As I said, the outside can be any size depending on the motorcycle itself, but what's common to all the Al Urak is the three quick release pins in the middle and a particular aperture that lends some stability to the kinds of top plates you're going to be mounting to it. Now that top plate is a key ingredient to the flexibility of this system. There'several different ways to mount different kinds of luggage to the Al Urak. We'll walk through those as we go. Now the modular nature of the Al Urak allows us to accommodate different kinds of luggage. For example, we can put a plate on and deal with soft luggage, give it a nice solid base. We can also use very specific plates that allow us to mount a track style box as well as a GV monokey and monolock. We're going to start by looking at a solution for a soft bag. Now this is the soft bag adapter plate for the Al Urak. Basically you drop it on the bike, hit the quick turn fasteners, and this gives you a nice stable base for any kind of soft bags you want to use, whether it's a dry spec bag with internal stiffeners or something else. The idea is the footprint is big so that your bag doesn't flop around. So for the hard bag solutions we have these adapter plates. Now they differ primarily by the particular adapters they need to go to the hard top boxes. This happens to be one for a GV monokey, this happens to be one for a tracks adventure box. The idea here is to bolt this onto the top of the Al Urak and slide your hard luggage right onto the top of this. Makes a nice intermediate plate, keeps things nice and stable and allows you to remove this if you don't Now what I should have mentioned is when you go to install this you're going to make sure that this particular plug fits down into the slot here. Now the purpose of the plug is to give the top plate a little bit of stability, keeps it from moving around so the quarter turn fasteners really just have to hold it down to the plate, don't have to do any torsional loads. When they're new There we go, that's as long as it takes to install one of the intermediate plates on the Al Urak. Now I mentioned before that the Al Urak is really designed for a lot of flexibility, you don't have to do just hard luggage or a big top case, you can actually use an adapter that uses one of these, this is an SW MoTeC tank ring, attaches to the bottom of one of these guys and you can run a tank bag of any size as long as it's flat bottomed right in the same spot, all it takes is a quick adapter kit. If you're not running anything at all you may want one of these, it's a little rubber plug, fits right into the slot, keeps junk from falling through. Alright, so our Trax Adventure Box goes into place, lock it down, we'ready to go. Just fill it up, gas up the bike and you'ready for your commute or you're right around the world, whatever suits you. Now the Al Urak is designed for a lot of different bikes, we have a lot of applications, you'll be able to see all of those on our site at TwistedThrottle. com.
