Hi, my name is Xavier B. Johnson and this is Long Overdue. But let me assure you. . . I'm back! First of all, I just want to thank everyone for 300 subs and beyond. So what are we working on? And where have we been? Well, I'm proud to reveal Decel Knight's prototype version 0. 3. Let me show you its features. We have third-person animations now. Well, to start, this was our main player character during prototype 0. 2. Armed and dangerous. Perfectly suitable for single-player gameplay. This is where most movement shooters stop. Because for a single-player FPS, this is all you really need, unless you want to have a shadow or legs. But Decel Knight's is not a single-player game. Decel Knight's, for those of you who are new to the channel, is a 6v6 mech movement shooter, set in a fictional diesel punk world. And if you want to make a multiplayer game, your character needs more than just arms. This is our player character for version 0. 3. But there's more. Decel Knight's don't just stand around looking pretty. Basic movement mechanics include standing, walking, running left, right, right, and keeping up, and keeping down, and accelerating left, sliding, and planning, and running, and planning, and j And all of that needs to be animated. There's a reason why most movement shooters are not multiplayer. It's partially because this is a lot less expensive to animate than this. Unless you happen to be a professional character animator and can animate it yourself for free, which luckily I am and did. And it only tooku2026 well, it took a long time. Combined there were over 120 unique hand-keed animations that were created for this one character alone. And that's only for locomotion. That doesn't include weapon manipulations or reloads. No motion capture was used for this because I am too poor to afford a motion capture suit. And no pre-made storefront animations were used because I am too stubborn to do that. The game can be played in first or third person. The result is this. Is it perfect? Yes. Well, actually no. But damn if I'm not proud of how it's come together so far. We've got a new map. A character and animations are still not all you need for multiplayer. You need a fun place for players to duke it out. Our previous map, Proving Grounds, which you can learn more about in our previous video, is a fun place to play around for a single player, but is not suited for strategic competitive play. Which is why we've created our second map, Sand Table. Sand Table is a small size, simple, three-lane map with three levels of vertical count and plenty of vertical surface area for wall running and flanking paths. This is the first multiplayer map that we've ever worked on, so my goal here was to keep it simple and fun. Now, you may be thinking, hey Xavier, these lanes seem really enormous. It looks To which I would respond. Yeah. Stay tuned. Up to four players can j This is a huge milestone for us. It allows us to start testing and tuning weapons and overall game feel with multiple players. We've only just started to test this out locally, but it's been a ton of fun so far. And it feels Keep in mind, this is only a prototype. This game is still very early on in development. We are a small team comprised primarily of myself and a few freelance 3D artists working part-time with no outside funding. That having been said, I am extremely proud of how far we've come so far.
