Vintage carbs specializes in refurbishing Mikuni carburetors for Kawasaki Z1, KZ900 and KZ1000 from 1973 through 1980.
I’ve been storing these carbs for about ten years now. I’d guess I’ve restored over 100 sets by now. I specialize in just a few models so that the processes can be perfected, parts sourced and function guaranteed. The goal is to restore each part on each set of carbs to meet or exceed factory specification. To do this, I use a two stage ultrasonic cleaning on all metal parts except steel. All steel parts are Glass beaded then electroplated with a cadmium finish equivalent. All rubber parts that touch fuel are replaced. I use Mikuni carb kits because I feel they consistently make the most reliable components. Of course some parts cannot be salvaged, that is where having stacks of spare carbs pays off. I have spares for all models I service, including bodies if required. I think the result is art. I take high resolution photos of the carbs I sell on EBay. When I first started, I can’t tell you how many times looking at those photos has drove me to take carb sets back apart and redo a given component. I am at the point now where each part is inspected thoroughly prior to assembly. I like to think the result is close to perfection, any feedback is turned into the next process improvement. The following restoration fees include parts and labor, shipping is not included. Model Price Early Z1 carbs $599 Late Z1 Carbs $499 KZ900/1000 76-78 $379 KZ1000 79-80 $419 Mikuni RS 34-38 $400 Mikuni Smoothbore $400 Turnaround time is currently 10-14 business days.
